Mercury Process

Main Group :: Tech AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Please note:

Currently, news is pulled directly from Mercury into ai.gatech.edu - it does not go through news.research.gatech.edu. We will need to discuss this, specifically:

  • Do we move the news to show up now on news.research?
  • Do we leave the Manual news on AI and only showing there?

There are currently 32 news stories in the feed, as of July 1st, 2025.

1.

Current Manual Feed - AI (Artificial Intelligence) Manual News Feed

https://hg.gatech.edu/node/677903

 - This feed goes directly into ai.gatech.edu, and is manually curated by Breon and Jaci.

 - You only need to add the Group, which is mandatory.

 - HOW are you using Mercury currently. I am not 100% sure. Let's document here...

[ - My thought, moving into the future, would be to only use the manual feed for news you did not create and want to bring into ai.gatech.edu. For stories you do create, use the automatic feeds for all AI news and AI industry news.]

 2.

New Automated Feed - AI Auto News (Research Area)

 https://hg.gatech.edu/node/675965

 - The Group must be selected in order to save the news item.

 - Any Mercury news item that has "Artificial Intelligence at Georgia Tech" selected for the Core Research Area will be added to this feed.

 - This feed will be pulled into news.research.gatech.edu (for the AI news listing there) and, from there, into ai.gatech.edu.

3.

New Automated Feed for INDUSTRY :: AI Industry Auto News Feed

https://hg.gatech.edu/node/682877

 - The Group must be selected in order to save the news item.

 - Then, you need to have "Artificial Intelligence at Georgia Tech" selected for the Core Research Area.

 - Finally, select "Industry" for the Category - otherwise it will be imported as part of the standard AI news, without the "Industry" subclassification.

Note:

All sites import news hourly. Note that for news going through the news.research.gatech.edu hub, that means a news item can take 2-3 hours to reach the endpoint on ai.gatech.edu, depending on the exact timing of the imports. This will not change.

Your news processes should not be built on rushing news items through immediately. In an emergency situation, such as a link in the news article pointing to a problematic website (e.g. a compromised/broken site), a "rush" ticket can be submitted to pull the updated news item. However, rushing news items through the system should not be part of your normal news processes.
